When I was asked to review Medi-Wings, I honestly couldn’t see why I’d want another piece of clinic equipment.
Really? Extra arm rests? Where’s the problem? My clients rest their arms on the treatment couch. Why would I want to wedge an over-sized white spatula underneath their back?
I was resistant at first. It was a challenge to remember to use them.
But once tried, clients started doing the remembering for me. Surely a sign that they liked them and found them comfortable, I thought. And generally, it turns out they did.
Most clients like the wider arm position that Medi-Wings make possible. Not all of them – some felt too open/vulnerable, even if the wings were moved in closer. But it’s fair to say that although they’re not for everyone, the majority seem to appreciate the wider support.
When needling both the yin and yang sides of the arm at the same time, the wings definitely help. The wider arm position makes the treatment easier to manage and stops the arm drifting.
They’ve also been useful for larger patients whose arms would otherwise end up hanging off the side of the couch.
They’re made of medical grade polymer, lightweight, easy to clean, and easy to store. And robust construction means they’re a one-time purchase that shouldn’t need replacing.
Although resistant at first, guess what – now I think Medi-Wings are a really good idea. In fact, how did I manage without them?
So do I really need a product to deal with a problem I don’t have? Turns out the answer is, yes, I do!
